Richard Carrier

Richard Carrier, a frequent Secular Web contributor and editor (with numerous scholarly articles in the Modern Library in addition to the editorials below), has a Ph.D. in ancient history from Columbia University. A recipient of several fellowships, he has taught classes in Greek and Roman history and published his work in magazines and journals.

He has studied skeptical thought and the paranormal in the ancient world, particularly the Roman Empire, majored in historiography, and intellectual and religious history, and minored in the decline of the Roman Empire. For his doctoral thesis he studied ancient attitudes toward science and scientists. With his Ph.D he intends to teach at the university level, write textbooks, and continue advanced research in the life and thought of ancient Rome.

He is the author of Sense and Goodness without God: A Defense of Metaphysical Naturalism, Not the Impossible Faith, and a contributing author to The Empty Tomb: Jesus Beyond The Grave.
